Sarah Nario

Preconstruction Manager / Austin

Sarah Nario’s mother first exposed her to a career in the construction industry through her job at community colleges working as their facilities/construction Project Manager.

“I loved going to visit the jobsites and seeing the tangible progress. I did my first internship in engineering and quickly determined that it wasn’t for me, so I spent the next few summers working for general contractors and loved the team atmosphere and seeing the impact you can have on the project’s success,” Sarah said.

A native of Montreal, Canada, Sarah moved to Texas when she was 10 years old, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in Civil Engineering.

“I learned about Flintco from a friend in college who had an internship here. He had only great things to say about the people, the culture and the growth opportunity in Austin, so Flintco was top of my list — I started straight out of school, and those qualities have stayed true for the nearly 13 years I’ve been here,” she said.

Asking questions and staying engaged is key to success in her role as a Preconstruction Manager.

“I’ve always liked puzzles and math – so it’s great to figure out where all the pieces of the project fit,” she said. “This industry is so full of opportunity and you will rarely, if ever, be bored! Every project is different, every team is different, and there will always be more to learn. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’ll find that more often than not, a superintendent will happily explain the why, or a trade partner will proudly explain the how, and an architect or designer will gladly explain the vision behind it all.”

When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and two children. Sarah is proud that she can show her kids the projects she’s worked on – much like her mother did for her growing up.

“Who doesn’t love driving by or visiting a project you’ve worked on saying, ‘I was part of that’?”
