This 152,937 SF state-of-the-art, high-tech facility is custom-designed for research in biodiversity, biophysics, synthetic chemistry and advanced materials. The three-story facility also features a basement. Designed as a “signature” building, the exterior of the HBRC is comprised of brick, cast-stone and an aluminum storefront that replicates the University’s historic library. The interior of the 152,937 SF facility features high-end custom finishes, including stainless steel wall panels and wood paneling. Much of the interior is exposed with ceiling clouds and sails to reflect the abundance of natural light. The flooring is all high-end hard surfaces, including VCP epoxy that is resistant to chemicals. Flooring in the laboratories is Forbo, an ultra-hard wearing material with no-slip properties. The structure is primarily structural concrete atop a pier-and-grade beam foundation with a structural steel roof on the upper level.
